Whitley Bay were back in the old routine as they smashed 10 goals past Durham City at Hillheads in their first League match of the season. It took only 15 minutes to find the breakthrough as Sarah Waldie played in Helen Graham who hit a great shot into the corner of the net. They were 2 to the good 8 minutes later when a Rachel Kay cross found the head of Helen Graham for her second of the game. The third was a minute later when Kirsty Hunter laid the ball off for Rachel Kay to fire home. On the half hour Whitley won a free kick some 30 yards from goal and Kirsty Hunter hit an unstoppable left foot shot into the top corner. Whitley went into half time 5-0 to the good when Hunter bagged her second of the game as she poked in a Nikki Smith corner. After the break, Whitley took a few minutes to settle into their rhythm and centre back Siobhon Davies took matters into her own hands by striding forward unopposed and hit a 35 yard screamer over the helpless keeper. The centre backs were now showing the way to goal as Stacey Naples pounced on a loose ball after a corner and stabbed home. 16 year old Laurel Davidson came on as a sub and was soon on the scoresheet as she received a pass fron Sarah Waldie and fired in a great shot from the edge of the box. Hunter claimed her hat-trick on the 76 minute with another great strike from outside the box. Not to be outdone, Helen Graham also claimed a hat-trick and Whitley's 10th with a great strike from distance. Manager Colin Phillips said ' We were comfortable winners and produced some great goals, some of the shots from outside the box were excellent'
